I'm so paranoid about skin cancer and this is a good reminder to get to the derm soon. I grew up in South Texas and live in Austin -- the UV index is regularly above 10! And I effing love the sun. All the elders in my family have had skin cancer. I spent my teenhood on top of my car sunbathing at the beach...so I'd add Ban de Soleil to my Gen X list.
I remember that stuff! Wasn't it an orangey gel? So many years sunbathing with lemon juice in my hair to bring out the blonde. Now I hit the beach with SPF 50 sunblock, a hat, and an umbrella.
Time on Substack goes by at lightning speed and before you know it you have reached your first year anniversary. Congratulations on your first-year Substack anniversary and may the rest of your days be filled with health and good community.
I just posted an issue of my substack newsletter around a similar (but not from Kevin Hart) message — I can't hear it enough that it's less about the outcome and more the journey.
Happy 1st Anniversary, Abby. Scaffolding is in place. Skin checks yearly. Beyond glad you put your skin health before your column deadline. You are worth it. And, your writing is always worth waiting for. Big hugs. Heal on. ❤️
So glad the procedure went well and you got on top of it! My parents have both had so many spots removed so I don't miss a dermatology appointment. Great post as always, Abby!
Oh yes...l love this scaffolding message. I definitely feel like I'm trying to do that. Good job addressing the skin situation - I have an appointment coming up to get something checked out on my arm...oh skin.
Heal quickly! My brother died from melanoma a few years ago—you are smart to stay on top of it. And I love the idea of building scaffolding…it’s like the way fishermen mend nets when the seas are too rough to go out. Hoping you’ll have better weather soon ❤️
Happy One year anniversary, Abby!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I have loved every one of these posts! 😊
Thank you so much! xoxoxo

I think so. I loved that it came in SPF 2. Which is like negative 50 in Texas solar terms.
Had a very similar experience in November, though mine was basal cell. One round of Mohs and it was gone. Helps to hear I'm not alone!
Glad yours is gone, too!

I’ll check it out. Thanks!
I’m going back to read so much of your work I missed! xx
Thank you! That means so much to me!

I’m sorry about the cancer…blessings as you heal.
Thank you

Thanks, Ann. The weather is already looking much better here! And I'm sorry about your brother.
